Dwayne Johnson is bringing you to the legendary Muscle Beach for his brand new TV series

Dwayne Johnson is hitting the gym once again for his brand new throwback TV series.

The ex-WWE champion and current Hollywood megastar is partnering with the USA Network on Muscle Beach - a scripted drama set against the famed 1980s Venice Beach, CA bodybuilding culture.

Johnson announced that he will be producing the project on Instagram on Thursday (July 21) - promising that Muscle Beach will mash up the "body-obsessed fitness movement" with the era's notorious excesses.

"As a kid growing up in the '80s, it's exciting to produce a series that stays true to our brand and dig deep into an iconic time in bodybuilding and unique Venice Beach culture - the '80s," he wrote.

"The '80s was a crazy time in Venice Beach with many lost souls.

    A very crazy time!"

Johnson is entrusting writing duties on Muscle Beach to Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer, the team also tapped to write a Karate Kid sequel starring Jackie Chan.
