White Night Melbourne

White Night Melbourne is an annual light festival held in the city's CBD.

The city is transformed through installation, lighting, exhibitions, street performances, film, music, dance and interactive activities taking place throughout Melbourne's streets, laneways, public spaces and gardens.

The 2017 event took place on the 18th and 19th of February.

History[]

The first White Night held in Melbourne was in 2013 on the 23rd of February. It is estimated that a crowd of 300,000 people attended.

500,000 people were estimated to have attended the second event, on 22 February 2014. 2015, held the third event to which it grew significantly to include more venues and locations. Alinta Krauth debuted her Colonise 3-D projection artwork exploring Australia's relationship with bats in 2015, and again in 2016 with her Cartology Apology, called one of the "gems of the night".
